Bio

Ian Buschmann is a performing and teaching saxophonist who has been honing his craft for over a decade. He was born and raised in Saint Louis, Missouri, where he has been immersed in the blues and jazz traditions the city is celebrated for. Ian spent his formative years in this fertile scene and would later attain his Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies/Performance at Webster University where he was awarded Departmental Honors and Latin Honors upon graduation. His formal education and real-world experience have given him the ability to cater to any musical environment in a way that truly serves the music; music for music’s sake.

While Ian plays and teaches on all variations of the saxophone family, he specializes in and feels most “at home” on the baritone saxophone. He has made it a part of his musical journey to fully explore all of the possibilities of the instrument, and how its versatility can cater to any genre. You can regularly hear him genre hop with groups such as All Roostered Up and Sweetie & the Toothaches.

In addition to his passionate performances, Ian also shares his love of music through education. He has been teaching private students of all ages as well as larger groups on the saxophone, clarinet, flute, and in music theory since 2018. His approach to teaching caters to each individual student in a way that will best suit their needs and interests as musicians. What sets Ian’s lessons apart from those of other educators is the fact that he creates new material for each specific student, thereby giving them the means to play to their strengths and to identify their weaknesses. Each student is given the tools they need to grow in understanding of their instrument and in music as a whole.
